Literature review of safflower(Cartamus tinctorius L.)

Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to provide basic data on the development of industrially applicable materials such as food coloring and natural color cosmetics through review of literatures related to function and dye ability of safflower.

Methods : The articles published in related journals such as domestic medicine, food science and clothing, and thesis of graduate schools in Korea were searched and divided into functional and dye ability of safflower.

Results : Safflower has excellent functionalities for gynecological diseases and bone diseases, extracts yellow pigment and red pigment from natural dye plants and has excellent dye ability.

Conclusions : The superior functionality of safflower can be developed as a therapeutic agent for various diseases. The yellow pigment and the red pigment are excellent in dyeability and are highly likely to be developed as a material applicable to various products such as food coloring and natural color cosmetics.
